What is cash flow?

Cash flow is the money coming in and out of your business. It is not the same as profit, so lots of cash does not necessarily mean the business is doing well. On any given day you should be able to look at the business and tell how much money is there, i.e. in bank accounts, tills, etc. and tell how much money is owed to you (debtors) or you owe someone else (creditors).

Tips

  • Even if you are making profit on your goods or service, if you don’t have enough money in the bank to pay your expenses on a day to day basis your business will go under. Without a decent cash flow your business will not survive.
